Job Description
Personal Care Assistant (PCA)
- Follow instructions for client care as written by the Supervisor (required for the services provided)
- Provide or assist with personal care, including but not limited to bathing, care of mouth, skin, and hair, eating, and toileting
- Assist with ambulation, meal prep, laundry and light housekeeping
- Perform/escort clients to medical facilities, errands, shopping and outings as specified in the care plan
- Assist client with self-administration of medications which are ordered by a physician or other person authorized by state law to prescribe
- Observe clients and their environments and reports unsafe conditions to the Supervisor
- Report changes in the client’s condition, family situation or needs to the agency’s Supervisor
- Complete and maintain records of daily activities, observations, and direct hours of service
- Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Training
High school diploma or equivalent
Virginia-Registered Certified Nursing Assistant
Have satisfactorily passed a competency evaluation program that meets the criteria of 42 CFR 484.36.
Have satisfactorily completed training using the Personal Care Aid Training Curriculum, 2003 Edition, of the Department of Medical Assistance Services.
Must have current CPR/First Aid certifications
Must have current driver’s license or access to public transportation
Proper vehicle insurance coverage
Must be able to lift/transfer/move objects weighing up to 60 lbs. alone with no assistance
Preferred Experience
Minimum 1-year experience in the home care field
